Juuls are electronic cigarettes, however, unlike most vapes, Juuls are sleek and have a flash drive appearance and shape. The original intent of Juuls was to help smokers shift from cigarettes to e-cigarettes, and their sleek, portable nature would be similar to carrying a cigarette as compared to a vape pen. Juuls today are associated with kids and teenagers, even though this type of e-cigarette is not legally available to any person under the age of 18.
From 2017 to 2018, the youth use of electronic cigarettes has increased by 75%. With this, electronic cigarette companies’ sales dramatically increased by 641% from 2016 to 2017(Click here for more information). In response, the FDA demanded that Juuls and other companies that produce electronic cigarettes make a campaign to stop kids from vaping. If the companies can't do this within 60 days, the FDA will pull the flavors that are most popular off the shelves: mint, fruity flavors, and creme.
How will Juul and other e-cigarette companies respond to the FDA’s demands? What would the campaign look like and would the campaign be used in alternative ways?
