Renewal of Polio?!?!

After a deadly battle with polio, during the 20th century, we thought that polio was almost completely eradicated. However, during the summer of 2014, 120 people were put into a hospital with a polio-like condition. But just as fast as it came it was gone. Then this virus(named AFM) struck again in 2016, sending 150 to the hospital. One thing troubled the doctors, all of the patients suddenly out of nowhere would become paralyzed. However, AFM is uncommon, the hospital only hears about a couple hundred cases a year. AFM is an enterovirus, which means that this virus circulates during the fall season, however, enteroviruses need a large population to let the virus circulate or the virus only will happen in small bursts. The virus also only affects younger children, the youngest being 4 at the moment.

During 2014 there was a breakthrough, doctors allied all of the pieces and connect AFM
with the enterovirus disease known as,  EV-D68. The CDC is aware of this but is not aware of the potential of the EV-D68. This virus keeps disappearing and reappearing, for example during 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017. Most of the research done for this virus has been done by Doctor Messacar.

Recently the third wave of AFM has arisen and Messacar predicts a huge wave will hit during 2020.
Do you think we are ready as a nation to take on this virus? Will this result in a similar case to polio?

Song of Solomon Reflection

The most challenging part of reading Song of Solomon is keeping track of what happened and when it did. Throughout Song of Solomon, there are many flashbacks from many different people and it hard to keep everything in order. On top of that many of character have the same flashback but a different perspective of that flashback. For example, Macon the second and Ruth flashback on her father’s death, Macon and Ruth memories on the subject were very different from each other. Now the reason why it is difficult to keep everything in order is that if u browse over the text you may miss the indicating if the previous passage was a flashback or a time gap. The way I tried to solve this problem rereading chapters, annotioning and creating a timeline for the book. This helped me make sure I knew what was happening and when it was happening. In turn giving me a deeper understanding of the plot and the characters. In my annotated page I thoroughly noted that this was Pilate’s and Ruth’s past ...

My family

My father’s full name is James Fang Yuan, James was the name he took when he came over to America. His original name was Fang Yuan, he got his name from his great grandfather and his last was a lineage name which unlike my mother who had a clan name. My father came over to America during the 1980s and came over to the Chicagoland area because he had both friends and siblings living in this area. Since he is Chinese, the place was populated by Asian people and he himself is pretty traditional and most of the food, music, and literature are mainly Chinese. However, do celebrate some American holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving but the rest of the holidays we celebrate are Chinese. But overall many of traditions have been satisfied when he had children, for example, he had to give up ping pong and playing the Chinese flute when I was born. But all of the main tradition such as food, music and holidays are still in practice. My dad struggled to fit into his community since h...
