After a deadly battle with polio, during the 20th century, we thought that polio was almost completely eradicated. However, during the summer of 2014, 120 people were put into a hospital with a polio-like condition. But just as fast as it came it was gone. Then this virus(named AFM) struck again in 2016, sending 150 to the hospital. One thing troubled the doctors, all of the patients suddenly out of nowhere would become paralyzed. However, AFM is uncommon, the hospital only hears about a couple hundred cases a year. AFM is an enterovirus, which means that this virus circulates during the fall season, however, enteroviruses need a large population to let the virus circulate or the virus only will happen in small bursts. The virus also only affects younger children, the youngest being 4 at the moment.
